Now delivering Xiaomi Electric Scooters, innovative tech experts Xiaomi has been at the forefront of electric technology since 2010. Since then, they have dominated the tech world and have gone from strength to strength in the last 11 years. MI stands for Mobile Internet as smartphones were their main love before expanding naturally into other electric product areas including the ever-popular and growing market of the electric scooter.

Landing on the market way back in 2016 (Seems like a lifetime ago!) was the popular Xiaomi M365 Electric Scooter model, followed two years later by the M365 Pro in 2018. It was these models that started the Chinese tech pioneers Xiaomi on the path to the electric future.

In 2020, when we were all in our houses on Zoom calls and making Banana bread, Xiaomi was releasing electric scooters. The Xiaomi EssentialXiaomi 1S, and Xiaomi Pro 2 Electric Scooters were released on the market.

Jump forward to 2021. The Xiaomi Mi 3 Electric Scooter was made available. Quietly with no fanfares or big announcements, just simply available on the market since August 2021. It's proved to be a popular model amongst professional electric scooter enthusiasts and quite rightly so.

We're going to look at these four Xiaomi electric scooter models; The Essential, 1S, Pro 2, and MI 3 Xiaomi.

So, without further ado, let us look at the four models from Xiaomi and discover which Xiaomi Electric Scooter is the one to buy.

What is an Electric Scooter?

Before we start talking about the Xiaomi scooter models, we're just presuming that you all know what one is. Well, some of you may have an idea, but just to be clear, we're going to give you a brief introduction to electric scooters in the UK.

An electric scooter is a motorized scooter that has a battery and a motor. The battery powers the motor, and the motor drives it along. And that is it. Simple right?

They do come loaded with extras including lights, brakes (Of course!), a LED display, wheels and tyres, and a lot of them are supported by apps. The Xiaomi have their own app for their electric scooters.

They have different speeds, usually three. This means you can go slow and steady, mid-speed and manageable, or speedy and slick, depending on where you are. Legally you're not allowed to ride them on a public highway, however, the government has trial schemes all over the UK like the one by Voi based in Liverpool. You can pay a small fee and ride around the city of Liverpool on an electric scooter.

As the world turns towards more eco-friendly and greener forms of transport it's looking like electric scooters are here to stay.

  • up to 20 Km Range

Next in line is the Xiaomi Mi 1S Electric ScooterSimilar in design to the Essential but for the extra money you pay, you get slightly more top speed of 25 Km/h and an extra 10 Km of range. Bringing the total distance up to 30Km.

  • up to 30 Km Range
  • 500 Watt Brushless DC motor

Longer Range

The 25 Km/h will make a difference as you'll notice that extra speed from this Xiaomi electric scooter. The 30 Km range means you won't be charging it as often as the Xiaomi Essential.

Your charge time goes up to 5.5 hours compared to the Essential, so there is a compromise there between the two scooters. It still arrives with a duo of electric and disc Brakes and is made from the same low-density, high-strength aerospace-grade aluminium alloy for its frame making it slightly heavier than the Essential at 12.5 Kg.

Safety Features

The MI 1 S escooter has a set of electric and disc brakes, meaning it'll come to a stop fairly quickly. Front and rear lights, and the LED display is bright and easily readable. It can take a load weight of up to 100 Kg.

Looking at the Xiaomi Mi Pro 2 Electric Scooter, we're starting to get into the range of serious electric scooters. With a slightly more powerful motor and a huge range of 45 Km on a single charge. The Xiaomi Mi Pro 2 Electric Scooter is for the professional scooter rider!

  • Fast Folding in 3 Seconds
  • Duo Electric and Disc Brakes
  • Made from Low-Density, High-strength Aerospace-Grade Aluminum Alloy
  • Classic Scooter Design
  • App Available

How far can you go?

So the top speed is the same as the MI 1S but the range on the MI2 Pro is really what lifts it above the other three Xiaomi electric scooters. 45 Km on a single charge is seriously impressive. And thanks to a more powerful motor it will climb up 20% hills. None of that silly hill business with the Mi Pro 2!

The downside of this electric scooter is the long charging time of 8-9 hours. Although, you can still use it for a couple of days before charging up again. It can charge easily while you're asleep or doing something else. Also, with a bigger battery comes a bigger weight. Still not massively heavy at 14.2 Kg, but around 2 Kg heavier than the Essential and MI 1S Electric Scooters.

Xiaomi App Capable

It lands with an efficient electric brake and a disc brake bringing the electric scooter to a stop safely. It folds down easily and can be stored away and features a bright LED display, lights, and is app capable. Perfect for getting all that ride data.

Although it doesn't have the range capabilities of the MI Pro 2, it still arrives with a competent 30 Km and the charge time is only a short 5.5 hours! The top speed is 25 Km/h which is more than enough. Three speed modes allow different speeds for different area situations.

It has an EBs and a new disc brake system compared to the others, which gives you a quicker more controlled stop. It has a climb of 14% which lies between the MI 1S and MI 2 Pro and has the same low-density, high-strength aerospace-grade aluminium alloy frame offering a sturdier and firmer ride.

The reduced weight of the scooter of 13.2 Kg brings it down to more reasonable levels and all your ride data can be displayed on the bright HUD as well as available on the app.

The Mi 3 has a simpler folding mechanism which makes it quicker and easier to fold.

Which Xiaomi Electric Scooter is the One for you?

Well, that depends, they all have their strengths. Not one of them is a bad electric scooter at all. In fact, it all comes down to personal preferences. All of them come with the KERS system. The KERS system (kinetic energy recovery system). When you brake or release the throttle while driving the energy conversion is more efficient, and the battery life isn't compromised. Xiaomi has thought of everything, right?

The Xiaomi Essential electric scooter is perfect if you're just starting out, simple design with enough features to keep you busy. The Xiaomi MI 1S is a step above with a slightly longer ranger and faster top speed.
